- Early 1800s: The Maidu people occupy the area for 10,000 years prior to the arrival of Jedediah Smith and trappers from the Hudson Bay Company in 1828
- 1864: Hezekiah Luther (Father of Live Oak) purchased 320 acres
- 1866: The City’s first settler, A.M. McGrew arrived in Live Oak
- 1869: The dense forest that was Live Oak was cleared by employed Chinese laborers to open up farmland and A.M. McGrew built the first home in Live Oak
- 1869: The California-Oregon Railroad from Marysville to Portland arrived in Live Oak
- 1874: Live Oak's first Store with the town's first post office inside
- 1875: The Live Oak Historic Commercial District started development until the time of the Great Depression in 1932
- 1876: The Railway station was built
- 1909: Live Oak received electricity
- 1915: Hwy 99 was built through Live Oak to the Butte County Line
- 1926: Vot to incorporate Live Oak as a city failed 148 to 148
- January 14, 1947, Live Oak was finally incorporated as a city
