- Early 1800s: The Native American tribe, the Maidu, lived in the area for centuries
- 1841: After building Sutter's Fort, John Augustus Sutter established Hock Farm on the land that would later become Yuba City
- 1849: Yuba City was founded on land purchased from John Sutter by Samuel Brannan, Pierson Reading, and Henry Cheever. They established a distribution center for supplying the Gold Rush 49ers. Sam Brannan, as senior partner, had the town site laid out and hired agents to sell lots
- 1852: Yuba City was a steamboat landing, had one hotel, a grocery store, a post office, and approximately 20 dwelling homes with a population of about 150
- 1856: Yuba City became the seat of Sutter County
- 1907: Fire destroyed most of Yuba City's business district in the area of Second Street/Bridge Street
- 1955: A major flood hit Yuba City, causing 38 deaths
