Early 1800s: The Maidu people occupy the area for 10,000 years prior to the arrival of Jedediah Smith and trappers from the Hudson Bay Company in 1828.
1842: Theodore Cordua establishes a trading post on land leased from Captain John Sutter.
1843: Marysville is founded by Charles Covillaud and Company.
1849-1850: Auguste Le Plongeon lays out the town and names it Marysville after Covillaud’s wife, Mary Murphy Covillaud.
